On February 14th we released the first song, “Only” off of our debut EP, The Up State. We are really excited to get this out to everyone and you can listen to it or download it for free by going to the music section and clicking on the link provided. “Only” was the last song that we wrote before we went into the studio this past summer and we had a great time recording it. While we were working on the song in the studio, I remember recording vocals, staring through the big window pane at our producer/engineer Scott Miller who was in the control room. He could hear everything that I was saying but I couldn’t hear anything that was going on in there unless he pressed the intercom button, so needless to say our conversations could be a little one-sided. While we were recording though, a gentleman walked into the room and closed a door that connected our studio to the one next door. Since the intercom wasn’t on I didn’t know what he said and just assumed he was making small talk with Scott. When he left the room though, Scott turned on the intercom and told me that a Grammy Nominee just told us the song was sounding great. Turns out the guy working next door was a seasoned music veteran and seemed to enjoy what we were doing. It was a great boost of confidence and completely unexpected but it was something that will stick with me forever.
